The City of Stillwater Environmental Programs is responsible for the local industrial pretreatment program. The program works closely with the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality.
In Stillwater, pretreatment is determined on a case-by-case basis depending on what the industry produces and what wastewater chemistry may be entering the collection system. Some industries are required by federal law to reach certain pretreatment standards. All industries that discharge to the collection system are required to be below local discharge limits and to ensure no prohibited discharges occur.
Environmental Programs will assist in this determination by requiring a sewer use application be filled out prior to discharge beginning. Currently, the City does not charge for a discharge permit.
Full sewer use requirements are available at City Code, Article V. Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and total suspended solids (TSS) surchargeable limit of 200 mg/L and oil and grease (O&G) surchargeable limit of 100 mg/L are found in City Code §41-557.
